NOA....

When my client H. Leslie Adams was invited to receive the Lift Every Voice "legacy" Award from the National Opera Association during their annual convention, held in Ann Arbor, Michigan; we were both elated. I am a type "A" person so when I arrived I made sure my client was taken care of. Upon me arriving, I realize there were some things that were not taken care of by the NOA so I observed to see how these items were attended to. Never the less, during the weekend, I went from being an observer to answering many questions, troubleshooting for the vocal competition, and simply extending myself to where I was invited to a private meeting with the then, President-Elect JoElyn Wakefield-Wright. As the weekend went on, my client completed his seminars and meetings and when I returned home, I was invited to be on the 2007 committee to plan the convention.

I didn't think she was serious or just this opportunity wouldn't come to fruition but lo' and behold it did. I presented the opening concert to the convention, which was an evening of the highlights of the Opera, Blake by H. Leslie Adams. The experience as to how this evening came about I will never forget. I will simply say I faced ignorance of all kinds but the most of all is that people in this world don't really wanna succedd because it is so easy for their egos to get in the way of their true success.

I was there to serve the organization and had plans to do much more than I did because my conversation with the President include me finding financial resources and philanthropists for the organization but when I was invited to the meetings, my contribution became clear to me that I was expected to simply be among the table. I felt my ideas were not recieved and actually one idea could not be ignored so it was taken and "adopted" by someone else. It was actually te most talked about session of the convention adn well, with it I guess I was thoguht of.HA.

I am an innovator, and so with that, I try to bring light and freshness to everything I do because I am not afraid to think outside the box. I mean, with this idea I GAVE THEM I did the work for research and seeking participants for the session and well, it was as if i wasn't even there or evn the originator. Never the less, I realized that many if at all ay of these persons were not greater than me because they would much rather sit in their cocoon and beamong themselves and feeling that they are above when in fact they are behind and well, the future of the organization rests within their ignorant walls. Growth, succes, nor creation will come to the organization. I suppose this IS their intentiona dn so, as always, I am the problem and the issue; not them!
